Professional Diploma in Legislative Drafting, University of the South Pacific, 2012

Mele Rakai graduated with Bachelors in Law Degree in 2007 and completed her Professional Diploma in Legal Practice in the same year from the University of the South Pacific. After admission to the High Court in August 2007, she joined Jamnadas & Associates where she practiced mainly in commercial and family law for more than 4 years.

Mele has also worked as a Prosecutor in the Legal Practitioners Unit under the office of the Chief Registrar’s Office which regulates the legal profession in Fiji.

Mele joined Sherani & Co in early 2012 where she practices a wide range of civil and criminal law but handles majority of the Firm’s employment matters. Mele also continues to engage in general practice but specializes in commercial, property, family and employment law.

Apart from Practice, she is the current President of the Fiji Women Lawyers Association (FWLA) taking over from former colleague of the Firm, Ms Radhika Naidu. Women’s and children rights are human right issues Mele is concerned about in Fiji. Mele is also a board member of the Legal Aid Commission and the Fiji Girl Guides Association.

She also contributes to the World Bank Group and has volunteered with several charity groups namely, the Hibiscus Events Group, Gender Climate Change Alliance Fiji (GCAF) and Gospel Churches Missions Committee.
